Apple has seen its stranglehold on the smartphone market begin to dwindle this year, with Google’s Android operating system growing in popularity due to a number of high end phones that have hit the market in recent months. Recently, Apple confirmed rumors about an IPhone 5 by announcing that it would be revealed at a company press conference on October 4^th, 2011. While the IPhone 5 is not expected to be an enormous leap forward from the IPhone 4, the new IPhone will be a decent step forward for current users and those who have been waiting to purchase a new phone in order to get the newest and most up-to-date technology. Loyal IPhone users also hope that Apple will finally announce flash compatibility and the ability to link the device to new cloud computing services. Rumors of an IPhone with a sliding keyboard have also surfaced, but there is no hard evidence that this will happen.

No matter what happens on October 4^th, we can be sure that Apple will unleash a new IPhone that will not only dazzle the market and its users, but will once again be a leader in the smartphone market. With the veil of secrecy over the new phone, we must wait until the big announcement to put all of the various rumors to rest.
